Move-up began from a realization that many high school students had minimal exposure to healthcare careers or an understanding of how to begin a pathway to those occupations.  In Lincoln County alone, the second largest employer is Samaritan Health Services, and nationally, with an increasing demand for healthcare services, healthcare jobs are projected to add more jobs than any other occupational group (data from the Bureau of Labor and Industry).

Move-up is the means for students to begin their pathway to medical careers, with a stairway to endless possibilities.  At Career Tech High School, students can take their first steps by engaging in a number of health science courses that build knowledge and skills mastery for entry level jobs in healthcare, while also preparing them for additional educational pursuits.  For example, following high school, students may choose to further their education locally at Oregon Coast Community College with either transfer courses or completing training for careers such as nursing, medical assisting, and emergency medical technicians.
